Reports of lower memorial attendance

i have heard a lot of reports from kingdom halls in the area that there was less than last year, for both time slots.. we had the first time slot and we were down 50+/- compared to last year.

last year we had the lobby full of people standing and this year we had empty seats and no one standing.

we ran out of parking last year and this year we made it.. like i said i am hearing quite a few reports of this from halls in our area.however, somehow the number seem to inch up every year.

As far as the tract campaign in my area, I saw some invites crumpled in the garbage in the building foyer. Either my neighbors beat me to it, or the JWs themselves have started saving householders the trouble and just leave them in the trashcan.

Perhaps the most effective JW tract campaign presentation (for a convention, their website, etc.) would be something like:

[knock, knock]

Householder: "Yes."

Publisher: "Good morning. Could you throw this scrap of paper away for me?"

Householder: "Sure!" [takes tract]

Publisher: "Thanks!" [to himself] "One more down. These things practically place themselves!"

And as I said on the other thread, this is such a tragedy. And if I had a dollar for every sexually frustrated JW I've known, well, I'd have a least several thousand dollars... and that's including myself!

It is another senseless tragedy. I haven't forgotten from my own experience how terribly depressing it is to be a JW. There were so many times in my life that I thought dying would be a relief. That's a miserable feeling.

I think I've almost lost count of all the JW men that I've know that have committed suicide. A guy in my bethel congregation. The son of a temporary worker. The son of my dad's pioneer partner. The brother of a girl I had a thing for once. A young guy that was briefly in my congregation with his sister and brother-in-law. A friend shortly after he was "downsized" from bethel. Another friend a few years after he and his wife were downsized from bethel. And another brother in the same hall very shortly afterward. That's eight. And that just makes me so, so sad.

wife and i have not reported a single hour of fs in 3-4 months.

while my wife is mostly doing for me (positive thing), i know she would have rather done it.

elder asked me to turn in my fs report this past week and then he added... "we need to talk".

I would have thought that since it was on Good Friday the attendance would have been up everywhere.

my wife was talking about the new LDC arrangement and made it seem like halls are busting at the seams

It's the same with my parents. WT is enjoying "invisible growth". The GB says how successful their website is and how they're building everywhere. They talk about this "growth" that is out of the view of the majority of JWs. At the same time, JWs are conditioned to ignore how they visibly sell branch properties, congregations are dissolved, circuits are shuffled, funds are grabbed by "mother", etc.

well i believe people don't want to believe in god because they are scared.

they know that if they finally do gorge the confidence to believe in him, he might discipline them for their skepticism.

a local elderette at my former hall (the same type person who posts selfies while out in "service") posted this public admonishment.

Ah, the good ole KH clean-up day. I remember times when there would be so many dubs show up, bringing breakfast, donuts, coffee, and snacks. Turnout was usually good if it was scheduled to start in the morning, so it was a way to get out of serve-us guilt-free. There were lots of kids running and playing. It was funny how some stuff kinda got cleaned up, repaired, and painted, but overall, the end of the day often found most of the area dirtier than when we started. And some of dad's tools were usually missing.

It's hard to predict what, if anything, will cause someone to finally awaken to TTATT. Dubs like my parents are of the mentality, "where else would we go?" They see many of the flaws in the bOrg, but they are already so invested that they can't just leave.

To use a very Watchtoweresque illustration, WT is like a house on fire. While we're ready to head outside into the unknown and leave behind all our WT investments of time, energy, and money, others are still sitting inside that burning house. They reason, "I can't leave here until there is a newer and better home for me to move into. I've invested so much time, money, and energy in WT that I can't just leave it all. Sure, lots of the original structure has burned to the ground, but the GB just installed wifi and a video projector. Why don't you come back inside and join us for tonight's "pass the wine and crackers" party?"
